Taegeuki, also known as the flag for the Republic of Korea is a philosophical representation. Both the red and blue in the yin and yang symbol represents both harmony and perfect balance in the universe. As the other four trigrams represents that although there are opposing views in the universe, there is also balance. The meaning behind the flag shows hints of Confucianism. The teachings of Confucianism have definitely played a big role into the country of South Korea. Past leaders of Korea also followed Confucianism so in order to carry on the legacy, the meaning behind the flag were teachings from Confucianism.
