WHAT ARE THE STYLES OF MUSIC?
- Korean Pop, better known as KPOP is a combination of pop, rap, r&b, rock and techno
- extremely popular worldwide, especially in many Asian countries (Japan, China)
- traditional music is usually played during big events such as new years or festivals celebrated in Korea
- phenomenon known as "Hallyu" or "Korean Wave"
Popular groups among South Korea

Korean pop music started becoming popular in the country during the late 90's as different groups with different types and styles of music came out. Late into the 21st century, the kick off for the Korean Wave began. Korean Idol groups consisted of girls and boys and sometimes both genders. Each group has their own sense of style or an image that represents who they are. New groups with a different and more modern image started debuting from 2007 to present day, started gaining attention from not only South Korea but Japan and China as well. Social media such as "YouTube" plays a big part in KPOP as they were able to help KPOP grow amoung different countries as many music videos were uploaded onto the site. As of 2011, Google had announced that YouTube would be laughing KPOP's very own YouTube channel. KPOP then started spreading around different Asian countries becoming wildly known, making their way into the U.S. Many Korean groups such as Super Junior, Girl's Generation, Big Bang and Infinite have all had massive tours, stopping in not only Asian countries but the U.S, South America, and Europe as well. Other groups such as EXO promote their music both in Korea and ChinaKPOP has grown immensely since early 2007 and won't stop growing as the phenomenon continues to make it's way around the world.
